The 60th edition of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) has been held at the UN headquarters from 14 to 24 of March 2016. This Commission is a global intergovernmental body that is exclusively dedicated to the advancement of gender equality and the empowerment of women worldwide. During two weeks every year since 1946, representatives of UN Member States, civil society and UN entities discuss the gaps and progresses to make to make gender equality a reality.
Two themes were examined this year: Women’s empowerment and its link to sustainable development (priority theme) and the elimination and prevention of all forms of violence against women and girls (review theme).
