The legislation on workplace violence prevention of Ontario (Canada) is particularly interesting: it considers domestic violence as a workplace issue since it can affect the safety of workers, and includes it in the general workplace prevention policies that employers must set up and respect.
The province of Ontario adopted the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act in 2010 that addresses risk prevention at the workplace. It specifically requires employers to take every precaution reasonable to protect workers from hazards, including from domestic violence that may occur at the workplace and is likely to expose a worker to physical injury, where the employer is aware or should reasonably be aware.
So as to provide employers with tools to successfully comply with the law and protect their worker, the occupational Health and Safety Council of Ontario designed a guide “to know to help”.
